%Descr:
Quality music zine, thats not slick. Zine includes interviews,
reviews, cartoons, and eye catching ads. The layout flows
rather nicely and doesn't seem choppy. This issue is great! Full
of interviews and talks with PJ Harvey, Frank Black, and others.
Plus it includes a article on European underground music. Most
of the reviews I read were witty and usually on the ball. What I
really enjoyed about this zine is that it held a strong
entertainment value for me, without comprimising the intellectual
content. If you like music you'll dig this, and for a buck a issue
you can't complain.

Williams has resurected *Crawdady* into an enjoyable little
newsletter. Let's hear it for the 90's
Paul *seriously* tackled the new Beach Boys box set here. This
has got to be the most intense review I've every read of any box
set. All 14 pages are devoted to histories of the Beach Boys, an
in-depth look at the mythical *Smile* album, and a huge overview
of the entire Beach Boys catalog. Paul is certainly the one most
qualified to write this piece as he has a long history with the
band including smoking dope with Brian in his mansion back in
'66. If you're even a casual Beach Boys get this issue.
Eraser carvings too.

%Descr: Some people just don't give up. It's a Beatles fanzine. And
they cover, with maniacal and sometimes illegible fanish
hyperbole, the latest bootlegs, re-issues, tours, films and
books about and activities of anyone with the remotest
connection to a band that hasn't performed in almost 30
years. Letters, news, clips, show reviews, photos, and
interviews.

%Title: HULLABALOO Issue 2
%Descr:
This British music zine comes with a gimmick: buy issue 2 and get
number 1 for free. No. 2, the "French Babes Issue" features an
intelligent critique of my very favorite indie band, Angel Corpus
Christie, so I'm predisposed to liking this zine. Also look for
two pages of dream survey, poetry, "Poetry Corner with Lenny
Cohen," a look at Vanessa Paradis, Margueriet Duras, an interview
with the Pastels, and more. Issue 1, the freebie, boasts an
article titled "Hamish Subliminally Assesses what to Value at a
Jonathan Richman Concert," plus "A Visit to the Police Station"
-- by Laurence, aged 10, a look at a Stan Brackhage film (very
cool), praise for *Saturday Night Fever,* and comics.

%Title: INDUSTRIALNATION: Exploring the Music Never Played on the Radio
Issue
%Descr: 8 Winter 93/94
From a little industrial zine with indecipherable dot-matrix
text to a big, slick industrial zine with still too much
indecipherable dot-matrix text. Actually, one can read a
lot more of the new&improved _IndustrialnatioN_ than the old
version, and there is a lot of clean and easy-to-read stuff.
But, damn!, this thing is huge.
This issue is packed, really packed with a whole bunch of stuff.
Interviews with or articles about Babyland, Sister Machine Gun,
Die Warzau, Blue Eyed Christ, Young Gods, Thrill Kill Kult and
Einsturzende Neubauten. And reviews! The review section is
bigger than most zines. There's even an article on how to do
your own zine.
It's a trite, and all-too-easy comparisson, but
_IndustrialnatioN_ is easily the MRR of industrial music zines.

%Title: INTENSITY Issue 14
%Descr: Mostly record (vinyl) reviews in this thick Washington music
zine. They cover many genres of music and try to shy away
from the Seattle/Sub Pop scene. There's a good music news
section too.
A special issue of *Intensity* devoted almost entirely to the
band The Melvins. As they happen to be John's favorate band he
compiled discographies, correpondence from the band, reviews of
their records, gig flyers, and of course a long interview. An
exhaustive compendium that has me itching to hear more of their
music. If you're into the Melvins then you have to get this.
Respectable and fiesty at the same time.

%Title: ROCK & RAP CONFIDENTIAL Issue 109 Sept. '93
%Descr: Famous rock critic Dave Marsh has been publishing his
concise, intellegent, and massively enjoyable newsletter for
many years now. Even though the name was changed (from *Rock
& Roll Confidential* to Rock & Rap Confidential*) it's still
filled with all the gossip, trends, and dissing as always.
Good news, those vile major label record companies and aggreed to
once again support stores that also sell used CDs. Garth Brooks
is now the only holdout. Another interesting piece here is by a
Clinton campaign staffer who explains how the Clash have effect
his political beliefs.

A tough job as I recall. The scene was quite scattered when
I lived there. There's comentary, DJ listings, club

Jimmy Griffin is finally steping down from the mayoral post for
what seemed liked forever to most Buffalo residents. It's not his
fault that the entire city of Buffalo is in such a state of
disrepair. Just the parks, lakes, streets, museums, libraries,
and downtown. But look at what he did for the tax base of Amherst
and Willimsville. There's also comentary about Clinton, the new

Players. Also making an apearance are the Posies, G.C. Cameron,

%Title: X MAGAZINE: Humor and/or Music Issue 11 Sept. '93
%Descr: X is one of the strangest magazines. Each issue looks
completely different, each issue covers completely different
subjects, not to mention their terribly irratic publishing
schedule.
They were late in getting this one out and didn't really have
enough material to make a full issue, so this is the "half power"
issue. They had some strange letters, news from the Consumer
Electronic Show, and strange newsclips. But the real highlight
was the eight pages of "macros," which are a collection of
hilarious media mantras for all occasions. "Mommy it hurts my
eyes, make it stop." "Just how you like it." "So tangy, so crip!"
"Check please!" "Road trip!" "Worthy!"
